Actions for prevention and control of health threats related to maritime transport in
European Union.Travel Med Infect Dis. 2013 Jul-Aug;11(4):238-42.
Highlights
During 2013 our group is involved in 12 research projects in different competi-
tive research calls at national and international level. Two of these projects are
financed by the Ministry of Health” “Prevalence of HIV/Chlamydia trachomatis
co-infection among clients of STI clinics” and ”Risk behaviors for HIV infection in
clients of sexually transmitted infections and HIV clinics”. The international pro-
ject“ “SHIPSAN ACT, studies the impact on maritime transport of health threats
due to biological, chemical and radiological agents, including communicable disea-
ses” the associated member from Spain belongs to the group 32. In the field of
immunopreventable diseases the project “cycEVA: Case control study measuring
A(H1N1) 2009 pandemic and seasonal influenza vaccine effectiveness in Spain
within the project several European countries uses common European protocols,
with the European network I-MOVE, to evaluate the influenza vaccine effective-
ness seasonal or pandemic epidemic.
The Knowledge transfer products were “Revision of pertussis vaccination program
in Spain”. The study updates the situation of the pertussis vaccination program
in Spain and the available evidence for the impact of the different vaccinations
strategies on the epidemiology of pertussis. Other Knowledge transfer product
was“ “Report on the estimates of influenza vaccine effectiveness in the 2012/13
seasons”, a review of the scientific evidence of influenza vaccine effectiveness
2012-13, to support the WHO Selection Committee in the selection of the influen-
za strain to be included in the influenza vaccine of the following season. The report
includes the results from 16 international studies of influenza vaccine effective-
13
ness both in the north and south hemisphere.
