As you already know we have seven research programmes and one training programme. In the chronic disease programme, we should stress the MCC sub-programme, with almost 10,000 subjects. 14 articles have been published in journals with large circulations. The results stress the influence of xenoestrogens in the risk of breast cancer, trihalomethanes in colorectal cancer and the confirmation of the relationship between the consumption of red meats and cold meats with colon cancer. Working on night shifts has been related with stomach cancer and chronic lymphatic leukaemia. Thanks to the financing received this year studying the prognosis of different tumours is also being considered.
In the PREVICET programme, the whooping cough sub-programme has been changed to influenza and it has shown evidence for the drop in effectiveness of vaccination against A-H3N2. 39 articles have been published and it continues with the projects financed by the European Center of Disease Control on whooping cough and anti-pneumococcal vaccination.
In programme no.3, DAPET, the MEISI multicentre project on immigrant and vulnerable populations and their health risk was completed. It continues with the coordinated project on work, immigration and health in a cohort of immigrants. It has taken part in the Work Package on “Access of the migrant population to HIV diagnosis and care”; EURO-EDAT Project.
As part of the programme of social determinants there is the sub-programme, on the “effect of the crisis and socio-economic inequalities on mortality”. An analysis of the evolution of inequalities in suicide and on inequalities in the main causes of mortality in several of Spain’s Autonomous Communities has been carried out. There are repercussions on the health system: an increase in the consumption of psychotropic drugs and on suicide rates through the crisis.
The environmental determinants programme, contains the INMA sub-programme with 52 new publications this year, in which follow-up already extends to the ages of 11-13. They are working in cooperation with other European cohorts and included in such projects as CHICOS and the EGG and EAGLE genetic studies. The main discoveries of the INMA Project refer to the role of environmental agents (DDE, BPA, phthalates, etc.) on obesity and asthma and the epigenetic markers of xenoestrogens in childhood.
The healthcare service programme contains the sub-programme entitled “Social Burden of chronic diseases” in which the cohort of persons paying into the Social Security system from 2004/2013, 1022779 persons, was reconstructed. It has shown that flexible employment careers (with a large number of temporary contracts), if these are secure (continuity of contracts, unemployment periods with cover), undergo a risk of dying similar to those who have had stable employment careers (few and permanent contracts). In BiblioPRO 2300 new users were registered and 400 new instruments are being incorporated.
