Dear Colleagues,
Please allow me to start this letter by giving the two new groups which have joined us through the 2017 AES call a warm welcome to the CI- BERES These are the groups led by Dr José Luis López Campos (Fundación Pública Andaluza para la Gestión de la Investigación en Salud de Sevilla) and Dr Guillermo Muñiz Albaiceta (Fun- dación para la Investigación e Innovación Biosan- itaria en el Principado de Asturias) The Seville group investigates COPD, lung circulation, cyst- ic brosis and bronchiecstases and sleep and ventilation, while the group from Oviedo works basically on the study of di erent mechanisms responsible for respiratory failures in the critical patient I am quite sure that being joined by both these groups will increase the opportunities for cooperation between groups and the quality of work and scienti c production of CIBERES
I would like to go on by congratulating you since, in spite of the di culties which biomedical re- search in Spain is going through, CIBERES has increased its percentage of publications in the rst quartile and rst decile in 2017, as well as the number of publications written in coopera- tion with international groups Some other good examples of our work are the fact that last year we were the CIBER area presenting most pro- jects to European calls and we continue to apply for new patents All this vouches for your good work and willingness to continue with your en- deavours in spite of the di culties involved
We have also improved as regards communica- tion of our work to society; news has been gen- erated and has been disseminated either on our website, which has a rising number of visits, and over social networks This is nevertheless an as- pect in which there is still room for improvement and I would like to encourage you to announce your work, taking advantage of the excellent am- pli er that CIBERES represents for this purpose
Our aim at the management committee is always to improve the management of CIBERES re- sources by endowing this with better structures and possible tools in keeping with the frame- work that has been set for us by the administra- tion I should thus declare my satisfaction with the success of such initiatives as the Teaching Sessions performed along with CIBERFES which have materialised in a call for interCIBER collab- orative projects for which many good proposals have been put forward
I would like to end my letter by thanking you an- other year for your hard work and commitment and congratulating all the CIBERES researchers for the excellent results achieved in 2017
